I have to tell you, besides docman populate this is the best plugin for Docman. My main gripe with docman and other download components is that when you have more than 5 files, no one wants to scroll through 5 pages to view them. -DOCman forum user

New 2.5.1/1.5.10 Versions of DOCman File Listing Plugin Released!

Written by Omar Ramos | Admin. Posted in DOCman File Listing Plugin

The 2.5.1 version adds a few small features that have been requested recently, particularly the setLimit parameter which now allows you to limit the number of files retrieved for each category.

This release also includes a separate version for Joomla 1.5 that has been updated with some new features (like the Submit File button for each category, along with the new features mentioned below) that had been added to the Joomla 2.5 version, so if you're still using Joomla 1.5, please grab DOCman List 1.5.10 from the Downloads page :-).

Version 2.5.1 Bug Fixes/Features

  • Added in a new setLimit Feature that allows you to limit the number of files retrieved per category (e.g
would retrieve 3 documents from category 37)
  • Added in 10 new options for auto expanding (Expand File List Automatically option must be turned off in order to function. Then use one of these corresponding keys: autoExpandOneLevel, autoExpandTwoLevels, autoExpandThreeLevels, autoExpandFourLevels, autoExpandFiveLevels, autoExpandSixLevels, autoExpandSevenLevels, autoExpandEightLevels, autoExpandNineLevels, autoExpandTenLevels
  • Added in Submit File button additions into normal categories layout too
  • Made Submit File option appear consistently for different option configurations, along with Category ID tooltip (which appears when hovering over the category name)

Note: Please install Customized System SEF Plugin

When using DOCman List there is a high probability that you will cause Joomla's default System SEF Plugin to break, because of the regular expressions and error handling it uses. This will result in a WSOD (White Screen of Death) with no apparent reason/cause. The solution is to download and install (FREE) the Updated System SEF Plugins (available for Joomla 1.5 and 1.7) from the Downloads area.

ArtCats 2.5.0 beta Released!

Written by Omar Ramos | Admin. Posted in ArtCats 2.5

product-image artcats25

Over the past two weeks a few people have submitted tickets requesting a verion of ArtCats that works with Joomla 2.5 and I'm happy to say I have something ready now!

Version 2.5.0 Bug Fixes/Features

  • Added code to make the module output styling similar to mod_menu, which template companies support better.
  • Added ability for dynamic category and article listings
  • Added dynamic module title capability
  • Don't let the beta tag fool you...this is definitely production ready software, but since it is a beta version it might not have every bell and whistle you might want included...if there's something you'd like to see, please let me know via the Support section in the main menu above.

I hope you enjoy using ArtCats 2.5 (I know it's saved me a lot of time and headaches since I don't have to create specific modules for every Section on my site and I can just use a single instance of ArtCats 2.5 to do it all)!

Want to see ArtCats 2.5 in action?

Just browse to the Products, Blog, or Changelog sections in the main menu above to see ArtCats 2.5 in action in the right-hand sidebar area! I've done my best to make the module mimic the output from the main menu module, which template developers style really well so ArtCats 2.5 should inherit those styles automatically in most situations.

New 2.5.0 Version of DOCman File Listing Plugin Released!

Written by Omar Ramos | Admin. Posted in DOCman File Listing Plugin

The 2.5.0 version is simply a minor update for the 1.7 version of DOCman List (I've now verified that everything works correctly in Joomla 2.5 and have added a few small features and bug fixes)!

Version 2.5.0 Bug Fixes/Features

  • Fixed potentially nasty PHP 5.3 error which was related to SEF URLs
  • Added DOCman Category ID Tooltip (hover over a category name in the nestedcategories/nestedtable layouts and quickly find out what your Category ID is)
  • Added new Submit File capability directly to the nestedcategories/nestedtable layouts (really handy when you have lots of categories and users...automatically selects the correct category in Step 3 of the Submit File wizard)
  • Added Details link for those that have viewing capabilities on a file.

New Extension Release - Content Update Notifications Plugin 1.7.0!

Written by Omar Ramos | Admin. Posted in Content Update Notifications Plugin

product-image-content update notifications-teaser 236px

It's been a long time coming, but I've finally been able to sit down and complete a project I've been wanting to finish for some time...the new Content Update Notifications Plugin for Joomla 1.6+!

If you already have a subscription to the site, simply login above and then go to the Downloads Page to download the Content Update Notification Plugin!

If you don't yet have a subscription, please visit the Signup Page to get started!

This plugin does a number of things, but mainly it allows the user editing the content in Joomla 1.6+ (Articles + Content Categories) to receive a notification email upon editing/creating a new content item.

In the notification email, the previous version of the content is attached in a txt file and html file, as well as the new version.

The other information about the content is also displayed in the email.

You can also add additional people to be notified upon editing content (such as administrators, or other key people in charge of keeping the quality of the content intact).

The plugin will also notify you with a copy of the article before it is deleted completely from the system (which should make it easier to restore something if it is deleted accidentally).

You may call it a poor man's version control system (using email as the storage mechanism) but I think it will work quite nicely for a lot of sites and I hope you enjoy it!

On top of the above, I've also added in some common corrections for content pasted from Microsoft Word, but I'm looking for additional examples of things that could be corrected so if you have those I'd really like to add them in so that your HTML can be cleaned automatically upon submission!

Thank you to all of the people that have bought subscriptions to the site this year!

I really want to say thank you to everyone that has bought a subscription this past year that I've been offering commercial extensions for Joomla. Not only have you guys brought a bunch of great ideas to the floor (especially with my DOCman List Plugin) but you guys have been wonderful to communicate with (now, if only I can get the notification system in the forum working correctly so I can be more prompt in those replies...however, I should always respond to emails pretty quickly from my Contact Page).

New 1.7.2 version of DOCman File Listing Plugin Released!

Written by Omar Ramos | Admin. Posted in DOCman File Listing Plugin

The 1.7.2 version is simply a minor update for the 1.7 version of DOCman List (one bug and some image path issues for the showMenu option have been fixed)!

Version 1.7.2 Bug Fixes!

  • Fixed the showMenu option (path to image folder and language keys  were incorrect)
  • Fixed an issue when using the showCollapsed option (it wouldn't reset the auto expand levels parameter to 0)
  • Changed the left margin for the nested list items in the nestedtable layout from 10px to 15px (seems to improve the look when expanding the items)

Note: Please install Customized System SEF Plugin

When using DOCman List there is a high probability that you will cause Joomla's default System SEF Plugin to break, because of the regular expressions and error handling it uses. This will result in a WSOD (White Screen of Death) with no apparent reason/cause. New 1.7.1 version of DOCman File Listing Plugin Released!

Written by Omar Ramos | Admin. Posted in DOCman File Listing Plugin

The 1.7.1 version is simply a minor update for the 1.7 version of DOCman List (fixes related to the new caching feature have been added)!

Version 1.7.1 Bug Fixes!

  • Fixed an issue where using docmanlist multiple times in a single page resulted in cloned output (instead of different output).
  • Fixed an issue with the new optional caching parameters (wouldn't work properly when manually enabled, since the optional parameters would not have been processed when the cache was retrieved)

Note: Please install Customized System SEF Plugin

When using DOCman List there is a high probability that you will cause Joomla's default System SEF Plugin to break, because of the regular expressions and error handling it uses. New 1.5.9 and 1.7.0 version of DOCman File Listing Plugin Released!

Written by Omar Ramos | Admin. Posted in DOCman File Listing Plugin

The 1.5.9 version is a fairly major update that provides a completely new layout called nestedtable which provides an even nicer way to browse and display your files!

Also new in this version is a Joomla 1.7 compatible version of DOCman List!

New version 1.5.9 Features!

  • Added a new layout: You can now have your folders output more like they would be on your filesystem (Corresponding key when calling plugin: useNestedTableLayout)
  • Added a new layout: Same as the above one, but just doesn't include the files in the output (Corresponding key when calling plugin: useNestedCategoriesLayout)
  • Added new CSS code that makes the output HTML displayed more compact. You can enable/disable this option as needed if you'd like to revert back to the older output (enabled by default) (Corresponding key when calling plugin: useNewCSS, useOldCSS)
  • Added ability for categories with zero files to have the category count hidden (Corresponding keys when calling plugin: showEmptyCategoryCount, hideEmptyCategoryCount)
  • Added ability for the folders to be expanded to a particular level automatically (only applicable to the new Nested Table / Nested Categories layouts)
  • Added ability for folders to be displayed before files (prior to this the output has been the opposite...only applicable for the new Nested Table / Nested Categories layouts)
  • Added ability for folders to be expanded by clicking on the <h2> category heading as well as the +/- image
  • Changed Zebra striping to use CSS3 nth-child selector instead of the row1 class (also added zebra striping for the nested layouts)
  • Added a fix for people using jxtended Finder (the plugin was using JPATH_BASE instead of JPATH_ROOT, so if called from the backend the plugin would run into a fatal error
  • Fixed the table output for the table and nestedtable layouts (the <tr> within each <thead> tag was missing the corresponding </tr> tag which resulted in invalid output)

1.7.0 Features!

  • Forced Output Caching...this should help reduce server strain and page load times on sites with lots of Files to display.

Note: Please install Customized System SEF Plugin

When using DOCman List there is a high probability that you will cause Joomla's default System SEF Plugin to break, because of the regular expressions and error handling it uses. This will result in a WSOD (White Screen of Death) with no apparent reason/cause. New 1.5.8 version of DOCman File Listing Plugin Released

Written by Omar Ramos | Admin. Posted in DOCman File Listing Plugin

The 1.5.8 version is a quick update to the 1.5.6 version released over the weekend to address a backwards compatibility bug and some other minor issues as well as introduce a new modal popup option for the view links!

Quick Release Note: The 1.5.6+ version's ZIP file contains a customized router.php file which can be used to overwrite DOCman's default router.php file. My version adds some new capabilities that allows my query reduction improvements to be taken advantage of even when SEF URLs have been enabled (unfortunately I couldn't fix this within the plugin as it's an issue with DOCman itself, hence the customized router.php file).

New version 1.5.8 Features!

  • Added a new layout: select dropdown lists (initial version...still needs input/work) (Corresponding key when calling plugin: useDropdownLayout)
  • Added a new layout: categories (now you can simply display only the categories if you'd like...the layouts make use of this one) (Corresponding keys when calling plugin: useCategoriesLayout)
  • Added more robust file extension support (added in all icons from default DOCman template and added support for a generic image to be used when no appropriate icon is available)
  • Added check to see if a document has been checked out, if it has then the Check-in link is displayed in lieu of displaying the Update link
  • Added ability to hide empty categories (Corresponding keys when calling plugin: showEmptyCategories, hideEmptyCategories)
  • Added ability to configure the date display format (for those that want to be more detailed and show the time as well as the date or just want to display the date differently).
  • Added ability for the category count to be displayed (Corresponding keys when calling plugin: showCategoryCount, hideCategoryCount)

Want to see what other features DOCman List has? Check out the Features page! Want to see the plugin in action? Check out the DOCman List Plugin's Example page on our Demo Site (it's been newly updated with some examples of the new layouts and hideEmptyCategories and showCategoryCounts option keys)!

New 1.5.7 version of DOCman File Listing Plugin Released

Written by Omar Ramos | Admin. Posted in DOCman File Listing Plugin

The 1.5.7 version is a quick update to the 1.5.6 version released over the weekend to address a backwards compatibility bug and some other minor issues as well as introduce a new modal popup option for the view links!

New version 1.5.7 Fixes and Features!

  • Added language files for Dutch and Danish languages directly into the plugin (should be installed automatically). Please forgive my use of Google Translate for the new language keys introduced in 1.5.6...if any corrections are needed please let me know.
  • Added modal popup capability for view links in table and list layouts. (Corresponding keys when calling plugin: useModalViewLinks, useNormalViewLinks).
  • Fixed backwards compatiblity issue introduced with version 1.5.6 where empty categories were removed from the listing (compared to being shown before). Now only categories which you do not have access to will not be shown.
  • Fixed PHP warning for $filters variable
  • Fixed issue where an extra slash was added for a parent category which you did not have access to was shown (e.g. / / Agendas)

New 1.5.6 version of DOCman File Listing Plugin Released

Written by Omar Ramos | Admin. Posted in DOCman File Listing Plugin

This was meant to be a 1.5.5 release, but I ended up sending out the 1.5.5 release unofficially to all of my users two Sundays ago and of course they ended up finding a few bugs and areas of improvement (I wasn't able to get all of them in, but the biggies all made it in). But since I had already tagged the 1.5.5 release that means any new additions meant a new version too, so here we go with version 1.5.6!

Quick Release Note: The 1.5.6 version's ZIP file contains a customized router.php file which can be used to overwrite DOCman's default router.php file. My version adds some new capabilities that allows my query reduction improvements to be taken advantage of even when SEF URLs have been enabled (unfortunately I couldn't fix this within the plugin as it's an issue with DOCman itself, hence the customized router.php file).

New version 1.5.6 Features!

  • Added support for my preload() method within the DocmanRouterHelper class (so if you copy over my custom router.php file into components/com_docman then the number of queries needed when SEF is enabled should be greatly reduced).
  • Added canUpdate() method to DOCmanListHelper class.
  • Added the canUpdate() text into the layouts.
  • Added some additional language keys into the language file.
  • Added some additional configuration options for the menu buttons (now you can turn on/off each of the Downloads Home, Search Documents and Submit Files buttons as well as use a custom URL for the Downloads Home link).
  • Added some additional text that gets displayed when you install the plugin to make sure and inform users that they should go and Enable the plugin if they are installing it for the first time.
  • Added ability for custom height/width to be used for the table layout with preview Layout Option.
  • Fixed issue Wes was running into by creating a modified copy of the getDocsByUserAccess() method to the DOCmanListHelper class.
  • Fixed issue that loaded all documents when the preloadDocumentsGroupedByCategory() method was called with an empty value for $catIds.
  • Note: Still need to fix PDF focusing issue reported by Remco in the table layout with preview layout.
  • Note: Need to add in modal layout option.

Version 1.5.5 Additions:

  • Moved Default Table Layout into its own file (Corresponding key: useTableLayout)
  • Added New List Layout (Corresponding key: useListLayout)
  • Added New Table with Preview Layout (Corresponding key: useTableLayoutWithPreview)
  • Completely reworked the data retrieval portion of the plugin to preload data in chunks, rather than load records one by one.
  • Added Category Primary Field Ordering Capability (Corresponding keys: categoryOrderByName, categoryOrderByParentId, categoryOrderById, categoryOrderByOrdering along with categoryOrderAscending, categoryOrderDescending)
  • Added Category Secondary Field Ordering Capability (Corresponding keys: categoryOrderByNone2, categoryOrderByName2, categoryOrderByParentId2, categoryOrderById2, categoryOrderByOrdering2 along with categoryOrderAscending2, categoryOrderDescending2)
  • Made some additional CSS improvements

So why did it take me a little bit longer to release this version?

That's a great question! I guess there are a couple of things, but the main reason was that I went on  October 15 to get a LASIK consultation with the wonderful Dr. Angela Nahl of La Jolla, California, to see if I would be a good candidate for laser eye surgery.

You see, I've been wearing glasses since I was eight years old and over the years my eyesight had decreased pretty steadily to the point where I was close to -8.00 diopters (or about 20/1200) and I had just gotten to the point where I really didn't want to wear my glasses anymore and didn't want to bother with contacts either (which i had been wearing on and off over the years).

So I went in and met Dr. Nahl and everything checked out for me as a candidate so I signed the paperwork and then came back the following Friday, October 22, to get my eyes fixed.

Even though I look pretty serious in the picture below, I wanted to share the fact that I'm so into Joomla that I went ahead and wore my recently acquired shirt from the San Jose Joomla!Day to my procedure :-).

(I swear I don't look this serious all of the time!)

So I've been trying to keep my eyes rested the past few weeks (prior to the surgery and then afterwards), but I still wanted to put some work into fixing the issues that have cropped in the last two weeks after I sent out that email about version 1.5.5.

If there is anybody out there that is in a similar situation with their eyes, I would definitely recommend Dr. Nahl (she had the fastest laser after all, haha...about twice as fast according to her as the one at UCSD's Shiley Eye Center) and the procedure in general. I know it's different person-to-person, but for me there was only a mild scratchiness immediately after the procedure which went away after a few hours and unlike some I didn't have watery eyes or anything afterwards. When I went back in this past Tuesday for a follow-up I was able to see all the way to the 20/15 line on Snellen Chart so I felt pretty good about that :-).

Thank you very much for your patience everyone and thank you to everyone that wished me luck on my procedure!
